2/19/10 - Digital_Nation Question 4

In recent years digital media such as multi-player online games and social media networks have exploded in popularity.

Supporters argue that these technologies allow people to become more social and expand their network of friends and acquaintances. Opponents argue that they often lead to abuse, internet addiction, and/or harassment and cyber-bullying.

In today’s world of technological immersion, in what ways is technology helping us to develop more meaningful personal relationships?  In what way is it hurting our "real-world" relationships with others?

  1. If you are addicted to the internet and play games all the time then i
I would geuss that your relasionship with outhers outside the computer is suffering,I see peolple like that and wonder whats so great about these games? I personaly think that these games are stupid and they are a waste of time.

  2. I think technology has created a way to isolate us from our parents or friends. Instead of having fluent conversation with our parent we decide it’s ok to ignore them and go get on the computer or cell phones and explore the internet. I know parents feel hurt when their own children don't talk to them, or tell them how their day went.

  3. I think that the computer is a good way to get to know other people in certain ways but there are much more opportunities outside of the computer to meet and talk to people. There are people that are addicted to the computer and don't have much of a social life. Kids tend to go straight to the computer when they have free time and don't pay any attenchion to their families. They need to have fluent conversations with their families to have a healthy family.

  4. Billions of people are on the internet all day long. For some it is part of their job,but others just choose to spent all day everyday on the internet. Social sites like Myspace and Facebook are good websites to keep in touch with family and friends, but also be some of the most dangerous sites on the web. When these sites are used correctly they can be great, but when people arent careful about their decisions and privacy made on the internet it can turn bad. People spend hours playing games on the computer which in my opinion is just ridiculous!

  5. I think that technology is for homework, research, and also for to tlak with friends. People somtimes wonder what is grate about the enternet. Most kids are interacting on the computer insted of in scoiety with peoplein real life. Some people don't even know what is goning on in today because they are addicted to the computer. Pospibly if there house was robed they probably wouldn't even know because they are attached to there techonolag. I would have to say that kids are cazytoday for staying on the computer to long for just playing games. As for me I don't even stay on that long. I would stay on the computer for about 25 minutes a day that is it. If I don't need to be on the computer then I would stay off the computer and read a book in my spear time if I have any. I would only be on the computer if I have a paper or somthing do that day.

  6. I would have to agree with Coleman and Kayla because they are both right.People are addicated to there computer. They can't stay away form there computers. I know people that would stay on there computer for at lest a day or two. Also that people will not go out to see other peole to go on dates and for meetings as well. They make a good observation of people.
