2/19/10 - Digital_Nation Question 5

Much of the video focused on education.

On one side there was the argument that technology and the distractions that it causes are having a negative effect on young people...poorer reading and writing skills and shorter attention spans.

On the other hand there was evidence that introducing technology into some schools has resulted in improved student attitudes, higher standardized test scores, and greater student achievement.

How do you think technology should be used in education?  What do you think school will be like in 5 or 10 years in terms of use of digital technology?

  1. In education I think technology shoud be used with laptops. I think the majority of kids like to type things instead of writing them. Plus using a laptop is quicker and easier to seach
things than doing it on your own.
In about 5 to 10 years i think all school will have laptops in their classrooms for their students to use whenever they need it.

  3. In responds to dalton Ziders. Iagree with him b/c alot of kids do like being on the computer and typing things better than writing. Also, laptops are quicker and students can get more work done. In 5-10 years technology will take over everything,computers,t.v.,music players,cars..etc.

  4. Technology influences young people alot! I believe that it betters education for students. Technology such as, computers, phones and such are a big part of most kids lives. Technology to me makes things more interesting and is a much more convient way to do school work. Within the next 5 to 10 years i think most schools will probably be using computers for almost everything!

  5. I dont think that technology has a bad affect on teenagers. If anything it helps out because we would much rather type things then write them. Now a days it's more common for more technology to be around because we use it more in life.
In 5 to 10 years i think businessess and schools will go to mainly computers instead of writing things out. Schools will have laptops in every classroom available at all times for students to use.

  6. I agree with Dalton because I think it would be easier to do research on a lap top, than going to the library and looking everything up. Also, typing would get certain things done faster rather than writing everything out. I think in 5 to 10 years every school will have laptops or computers in their classrooms.

  9. i agree with the fact that kids like using labtops but how do teachers know really what their students are doing if they are teaching the class. even though the labtops are quicker i think that people should type the oldfashioned way with pen an pencil
